In person shopping has a different appeal. Being able to feel a material and try on an item can make a huge difference in your decision on purchasing a piece of clothing or not. Thinking along these lines, I recently had my first pop up show in the greater Boston area.
Leading up to our 2 day pop up shop I started to get nervous that we wouldn’t be able to set up all of the clothing, or it wouldn’t look right, or that no one would even show up. As I was thinking about decorating and the logistics of setting up. I was almost embarrassed to be putting so much work in without any guarantee of a big crowd or any sales but I was too excited to even be having a show and for people to see our collection that I quickly got over it.
Having a show in a new location forces you to think outside of your normal set up and get creative because you usually don’t have everything you need. For this show we decided to set up the suit styles with pants folded across a table rather than hanging each item up. We’ve never done this before and I actually really liked it because it broke up the flow and gave people something different to look at than combining through racks.
We kept decorations simple and stuck with some items we already had. The room was laid out for convenience, by making sure there was ample seating area and walking space. I like to decorate with items that can serve a purpose. One of my favorite ways to do this is with mood boards. When making a mood board, you are in control of what scheme or aesthetic you want to embody and portray to customers. It helps folks walking through the room to see what types of pieces and colors to expect in our collection and showcases the inspiration behind different designs.
Having 2 days for our Pop Up show was a very fun experience from which I learned a lot. I loved helping people look for pieces they like and find them an item they wouldn’t usually reach for, but ended up loving. My favorite part of providing an in person shopping experience is being able to talk to customers and give them ideas for how to style their pieces and help them find something they love.
Thank you to everyone who came out to our first Boston show, I am so happy people liked the collection. I appreciate all the support and love!
